The Finished Poster (Mori)

Since I posted the last poster onto the blog i have reviewed what needed to be changed as i thought that there was something wrong with it. After looking at other posters and asking many people for feedback i discovered that having the Title in the middle of the page didn't look good, it drew the eye away fromt the pictures. I also realised that i wasn't following the rule of 2/3rds meaning that the poster was dived in three different equal parts rather than one part taking up 2/3rds of the space and another taking the other 1/3rd, so iu changed this, i made the picture iof the main characters larger and moved the title to the top of the page, i also changed the font of the subtitle sentence as it looked like the title and therefore took away the importance of the title.

Magazine Cover (Mori)

Recently we have been working on the magazine cover. I have found this particular part of the course fairly challenging because it is very difficult to produce a cover which looks professional and realistic. The first problem which I had to overcome was the with the Main Image, I found that the pictures we had of the main character Lucy were all in clothing which was fairly dull and didn’t stand out greatly, so I cropped a picture to use just her neck and head. This, at first did not look good so I had to print it off and receive feedback from members of my class, after half an hour and conversations with many media studies students I realised that I should put her head to one side of the cover and therefore giving me far more room for more text in the form of coverlines. After putting in a Masthead and the main coverline I again encountered issues with the overall look of the magazine. So I decreased the size of the main coverline as it was taking the focus of the masthead, the magazine name, which is the most important part of the magazine, as well as adding smaller coverlines and aligning them left. To create the magazine cover I used the internet a lot looking up many different magazines and what their covers are like and then I could model different parts of my magazine on parts if them that I thought looked effective and drew my eyes to the cover e.g. I used two small captions of characters from our film, ‘Divine Intervention’ and put them into one of the corners with a big plus beside them, this implies that the magazine has something extra than you would usually get, something which no other magazine has and therefore giving the buyer the impression that it is good value for money. I also added in a bar code and a dateline to increase the professionalism of the magazine cover. All in all I am very happy with the magazine cover.

New Trailer (Aaron)

Last time we had updated this blog we posted the trailer however after realising and having received feedback on certain aspects such as the music, we upgraded the quality and editing of the trailer. We had also added in some new shots to make the trailer more tense as we added in new music to go with it. By adding this new piece of music, I have managed to get the right emotion more effectivly and have created more room for different types of emotion. I had used happy music with a rape scene which either seemed a bit creepy and wrong or it just did not fit and so i changed the music to that and also added in new shots so that the tralier had more content in it.

Editing the trailer and working on the poster (Mori)

Recently in class we have working towards handing in the first draft of the trailer, this meant that we have been working in lessons and attending clinics to make sure that we got enough to ensure that it would makes sense. While Aaron did some of the editing, i worked on the captions on a seperate computer. I created these on photoshop as they look more professional and they can be changed easily without changing the film in the editing programme. There is also a wider range of fonts on photoshop, therefore we can choose one which goes well with our genre. Also on Photoshop i created the main title for the trailer and our production company logo (A&M Productions). We wanted the main title to be simple as we could not create our won style of font so we decided to have a glow outer glow on it and keep the letters capitals creating a greater imapct. I am very pleased witht the production logo and i think that the time i put into it has been worthwhile as it looks very professional. To make it i created the shape by making a frame and then had to add in the writing, to make the lines come across the words i then had to add an effect onto it giving it the rich purple colour and the scopres through it. I then removed the bottom sectiojn of the frame and added in the words 'production' in an italic font, different to the 'A&M' making it stand out as i production company.
After this we decided to start on the voiceover, we had to move some of the clips around at the beginning in order for the voiceover to fit correctly and not run over the scenes we wanted it to be on otherwise it would clash with sound bridges and therefore sound from another scene. We used a voiceover using a voice recorder and Aaron spoke into it what we had written when we were planning the film.
We have now started work on the poster which is much harder than anticipated, we decided between us after looking at a poster of the recently made film 'Star Trek' that we would have the two main characters at the top of the poster, Lucy and Jack facing each other which we have successfully managed to do. These pictures were taken on the previous Sunday when we set up a black screen and strong lighting to make the pictures look professional, to add to this affect we also borrowed our teachers good camera and therefore managed to take high quality pictures worthy of a poster and a magazine cover. The plan for the rest of the poster is to have their pictures merge down into a wide shot of lucy standing on the cliff edge like the scene in the trailer, with the sea in the background. We than want to have the title of the film 'Divine Intervention'. To develop the name for the film was again something which we had not aticipated to be so difficult, our original idea was to call it 'Fate' but we quickly decided that although it was easy to remember it was also too obvious and doesn't creat much impact on people when they see it. We then started to think of similar words and phrases and eventually came up with 'Divine Intervention', i think that it is a really interesting name as it is challenging the audience to put some thought into what it mauy be about and the meaning of it, i think that it will stick in audiences minds and it sounds classy and realistic.

Update (Aaron)

Since my last post there has been a lot of progress as Mori and I have managed to hand in our first draft of the trailer so that we may make any modifications. I must say out of all the scenes that we have shot there are two shots in which I am very proud of; the openning shot of lucy with the sea in front of us and the rape scene as we have managed to portray a very gory image of rape without having to cross any boundries such as showing any part of the body.

Update (Mori)

Today in class I have been spending time on the computer editing the film we have so far, i feel as though it is going well and the trailer should be very professional when it is finished. We have a few more shots to get which we mean that we have much more material to edit.
I spoke to our teacher today and asked her to give her opinions on where we are with our trailer and what she thinks we need to improve it. She gave positive feedback as well as constructive critacism, she really liked the music which Aaron and i were pleased about as we have done lots of research on the music and we choose music which went against the genre and challenges the codes and conventions of film, the music is relaxed and slightly classical even when we are showing a girl getting raped, this is very effective because the music makes it seem normal but viewers know it is far from normal which makes it scarier and more strange.
Mrs Downes also said that at the moment she could not work out the genre of the film which is a fair comment, we are still to add in the voiceover which will be explaining what the shots are showing and their relevance, i think this will also add a scary and almost ominous effect to the trailer. In conjunction with this she said that it was slightly difficult to understand, but i am confident that with the rest of the filming in place and the voiceover added in the trailer will be easier to understand and will leave veiwers wanting to watch the whole film.
Other feedback from another girl in our class said similar things to Mrs. Downes, "Really like the music and the opening shots of the girl, but not so sure about the story yet."
The feedback has been very usful and shows me what me and Aaron need to work towards and where we need to tighten up the trailer. I think after another two or three weeks we should show it to the same people as well as a few others and see what they say then, and we can compare it to what has been said this time and therefore, setting the target for ourselves to improve veiwers understanding of the trailer as well as getting it as close to finished as possible.

Filiming and What We Have Done So Far (Aaron)

Mori and I have managed to gather up information on the exact format and the codes and conventions of our trailer in order to give the feeling of suspense and romance at the same time. The music has been decided to be created first hand so that we can alter what kind of music we need so that that we may enhance the approach of the emotions that run through smoothly and give a more sophisticated look to the trailer.

Recently, Mori and I filmed the rape scene as we are doing the shots on location rather than in sequence. This done in such an order as it is easier for us to organise the filming schedule amoungst the asctors and ourselves. This enabled us to use the actors at our dispense more efficiently as they too have similar projects to complete so we needed to work around there own schedule.

The shoot was a success and we have edited the scene and it is as exactly as we planned for.
